Mount Vernon Library Takes Part in Cases For Smiles

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- A hospital stay can be a terrifying experience for a child – especially those with cancer and other life changing illnesses.

The Mount Vernon Public Library is hosting a series of sewing projects to make pillowcases for children in the hospital as part of "Cases for Smiles."

Even something as small as a special pillowcase can make the sick child feel better, that's why the Mount Vernon Public Library will take part again this year in sewing pillowcases for Ryans Cases for Smiles for ill children at the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center.

The events take take from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 13 and 20 in the library's Grace Greene Baker Community Room, 28 S. First Ave.

Ryan’s Case for Smiles (formerly ConKerr Cancer) was founded in 2007 to bring comfort and support to young patients and their families in hospitals around the globe. They started with a simple goal: to create and distribute whimsical pillowcases that give children an emotional boost and remind them that they are not defined by their illness.
