Shawn T. Hopper gave police the slip Sunday night. But this time, officers from Maywood, Elmwood Park and Hackensack chased him down after spotting him on a Paterson street.

Police earlier this week put out an alert on a rented gray 2012 Nissan Altima that Hopper was driving when he sped off during a chase on Route 17 and Route 80 into Hackensack Sunday night.

Acting on a tip, they went to 26th Street and Broadway, found the car and waited, Sgt. Mark Gillies told CLIFFVIEW PILOT less than an hour after the arrest.

Around 4:30, Hopper came walking toward the car, the sergeant said. Seeing police, he took off. But the officers cornered him in an alley and cuffed him.

Police were processing Hopper at Maywood police headquarters at 5:25, when the first version of this story was published. Like Elmwood Park, they are charging him with robbery.

Hopper was later to the Bergen County Jail on a combined $145,000 bail. Charges include a probation violation from a burglary and theft conviction in September.

In both holdups, the robber gave the teller a note demanding cash in $100s, $50s, $20s and $10s. He was also wearing very similar clothing (SEE: Same robber eyed in Maywood, Elmwood Park bank holdups).

Hopper, 40, who spent five months in state prison for a 2008 drug conviction and was convicted for a burglary last year, was identified through bank survelliance photos and a fingerprint found on the demand note he used in the Maywood holdup.
