Dereck Miller remained on the run, however, after a K9 sweep of the area.
The off-duty Ridgewood officer spotted Miller, 34, in 300 block of South Broad Street just before 4 o’clock this afternoon.
Ridgewood and Glen Rock units immediately converged on the area and searched the nearby NJ Transit railroad tracks, parking lots of several nearby businesses and other locations.
Moments later, a K9 unit from the Bergen County Police Department arrived.
An arrest warrant charges Miller with burglary and theft in connection with a South Broad Street break-in that netted the bandit several pieces of gold jewelry over the Labor Day weekend.
Since he turned 21, Miller’s been arrested on — and in some cases convicted of — a host of charges, including those involving drugs, weapons, theft, fraudulent use of a credit card and, with them, several probation violations.
This past May, a man chased and tackled Miller after he found him burglarizing a friend’s car outside MacMurphy’s tavern, Ridgewood police said.
The man held him until officers arrived.
A month later, Ridgewood police arrested him again, this time for shoplifting nearly $90 worth of booze from a village Stop & Shop.
A month or so ago, Miller again was picked up by Ridgewood, this time on a warrant out of Glen Rock.
Records show Miller has been out on bail while the cases have been pending.
