The effort on Oct, 20, involved students collecting new data to compare with previously collected findings in order to predict outcomes and draw conclusions about the current state of the environment.
"We hope the Irvington Union Free School District’s participation in this event will help to develop a lifelong commitment between students and their local environment," said Joan Morabito, a science teacher at Irvingon High School.
Irvington Middle School science teacher Philip Levine said the day’s success was due to the collaboration between the sixth-graders and the older students, who took on the role of data collectors and leaders in the environmental science field.
“Our students were fortunate enough to spend time on one of the most accessible parts of the lower Hudson River estuary with older peers," he said.
