NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Mount Vernon's Northeast STEM Starter Academy (NSSA) will hold Cocktails for Science on Tuesday at Alvin & Friends in New Rochelle.

The evening of science, education and community will begin at 5:30 p.m. and run until 7:30 p.m. Proceeds will raise awareness and funds for education improvement within the Mount Vernon school district and throughout the northeast.

The event will include honoring Dr. Jacqueline L. Dunbar, Dr. Thomas J. Price and Business Leader and CEO Lowell Hawthorne for their on-going support and mentorship to students attending 2015 NSSA programs.

Hugh Price,  civil rights activist, former president and chief executive officer of the National Urban League, expert on education and author of several best sellers will be in attendance along with Superintendent of the Mt. Vernon School District, Dr. Kenneth Hamilton.

The event will provide a forum for neighbors, educators, scientists and engineers to mingle over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Attendees will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the center, which will be a multi-level, multipurpose facility dedicated to the enhancement of science and technology programs for the Mount Vernon School District and students within the surrounding communities.

The event is open to the public. Donations are $100.00 per person, and are 80 percent tax deductible. RSVP to Gerald Dennis via email gdennis@mvtsc.org or by phone, (914) 888-7556.

Alvin & Friends is located at 14 Memorial Highway.
