"The History of New Rochelle is rich and we will have tourists from all over the world come visit here.” said Jim Killoran, chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity of Westchester. "This is an afternoon of New Rochelle History, recognition of its past citizens, architecture and buildings, as well as recognizing historic neighborhoods that need to be maintained."
Events get under way on Saturday, with trolley rides through Historic New Rochelle. The tour will go to numerous historic sites; where Mighty Mouse flew, where Rockwell painted, historic buildings and many other special places. The trolley rides start at the Habitat headquarters/ReStore location: 659 Main St.
On Sunday, attendees will meet at the ReStore to begin a walking tour of historic New Rochelle, followed by a talk by the curator of the Norman Rockwell museum at 1:30 p.m. Tom Daly will speak on Norman Rockwell and the relationship he had with President John F. Kennedy.
Additional walkings tours will begin at the Gateways of New Rochelle at 659 Main St., opposite the Carnegie Library in front of where Mark Twain writings were published.
“There are 82 historic sites and we believe this will be an exciting program," Killoran said
On Memoral Day, there will be special events at the waterfront, walk or bike to Glenn Island Casino to attend the biggest event with food, helicopters, and to celebrate the memory of those who fought for our freedom.
