NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital/Bronxville is hosting an event in honor of national Go Red for Women Day on Friday, Feb. 5.

“There are still a lot of misconceptions about the prevalence of heart disease among women, and the differences between men and women when it comes to symptoms of heart attack,” said Mark Apfelbaum, M.D., cardiologist and Director of NYP/Lawrence Hospital’s Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. “One in three women die of heart disease compared with one in 31 who die of breast cancer. We are working to educate women on what they can do to reduce their risk.’’

The Go Red Event is sponsored by the American Heart Association and designed to educate women about the risk of heart disease and how to prevent it.

The Bronxville hospital will provide free blood pressure, cholesterol screenings and BMI calculations from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the main lobby. A lecture on nutrition and a cooking demonstration will take place at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively. Pre-registration is not required.

NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor will also offer blood pressure screenings, BMI calculations and free sleep evaluations in its main lobby on Feb. 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley will also hold classes in cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Saturday, Feb. 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. For additional information, call 914-734-3557.
