Festival of African Cultures Coming To Hartley Park

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Hartley Park will host the Festival of African Cultures to benefit "Thirst for Water" on Aug. 8 from noon to 8 p.m.

The festival will feature entertainment such as live jazz, Afro Beats by DJ E'Love, a painting performance, Hip Life performances, battle of the drummers, a Kids Korner featuring "The Village Experience," the Azonto Dance Performance Troupe and Durbar featuring Chiefs of African cultures.

Festival of African Cultures is designed to increase awareness and understanding to the residents of Mount Vernon of the cultural similarities and differences among the African communities represented in the city.

Thirst for Water is an awareness and fundraising campaign and platform aimed at increasing accessibility to clean water through portable water solutions. The organization is also a community building program that teaches and implements self-sustaining and empowering techniques in agriculture, health, education and recreation.
