MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Mount Vernon will celebrate city war veterans at Rye Playland during Memorial Day weekend.
Veterans Appreciation Day festivities have been planned for Sunday, May 26, the day before the annual Mount Vernon Memorial Day Parade. City veterans can join their peers from around the county for a day to celebrate their service.
Free entertainment and a picnic will be offered for veterans and their families. The event draws a cross-section of active and retired personnel from all military branches.
This is just the beginning of a series of outings scheduled for local veterans this year. There will be a Memorial War Bus Tour to Washington, D.C., in June. There is also an ongoing discount at Rye Playland for all veterans.
The Veterans Service Agency will be distributing free parking passes to veterans. Distribution will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
To obtain a pass, veterans should contact Commissioner Jonathan Logan at the Mount Vernon Veterans Agency at 914-665-2319. Requests can also be made for free Armed Forces pins.
