The free “Staying Sharp” program will feature a panel of four leading officials on mental health. It will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on May 4 at the Grace Baptist Church on South Sixth Avenue.

“This is a valuable program, and I encourage people to attend,” County Executive Rob Astorino said in a statement. “I’m told that 600 people attended a ‘Staying Sharp’ program last December, so there is obviously a great demand for such information.”

Panelists include Patrick Griffith, a professor of clinical medicine and chief of neurology at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta; Desiree Byrd, an assistant professor at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine; Christopher Edwards, the director of the Chronic Pain Management Unit at Duke University and Andre Fenton from the Center for Neural Science at New York University.

The program is presented by Health Ministries of Grace Baptist Church. There is limited seating, and those interested in attending should register by calling (877) 926-8300

Mae Carpenter, the commissioner of the Westchester County Department for Senior Programs and Services, which is co-sponsoring the event, said that the program fits in with the county’s Livable Communities Initiative.

“The initiative aims to enhance the well-being of older adults so they can continue to lead active and independent lives,” she said. “Programs like ‘Staying Sharp’ strengthen their ability to do just that.”
