MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- A state grant of more than $350,000 will help revitalize a 29-acre piece of potentially contaminated land around the Mount Vernon East train station, according to the Westchester County Business Journal.

Mount Vernon is reportedly one of nearly 30 communities to receive part of a $10 million grant form the Department of Environmental Conservation’s Brownfield Opportunity Area.

"Brownfields" are underutilized industrial and commercial properties where the presence or potential presence of contamination has hindered redevelopment.
