Shoppers Flock To New Hmart In Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Shoppers lined the streets and dignitaries cut ribbons for the grand opening of the newest Hmart in Yonkers on Thursday.

Located in the former Pathmark Highridge Plaza on Central Park Avenue, the American chain headquartered in New Jersey, specializes in Asian foods and live fish and shellfish, along with standard supermarket items.

The new 41,764-square-foot store also includes an in-house butcher and prepared foods ready to eat and three indoor restaurants such as Delimanjoo—serving Korean favorites, a noodle house called Midori, and a new concept called L'Ami Bakery offering a wide array of French and Korean sweets.

The store is the chain's 10th location in New York, the first Westchester Hmart is located at 271 N. Central Ave. in Hartsdale. 

The “H” stands for Han Ah Reum, a Korea phrase that means “one arm full of groceries.”s
