MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – The Mount Vernon Fire Department has started the process to fill a vacancy for fire dispatcher.
will be responsible for receiving, relaying and recording emergency communications for the fire department.
The salary for the position will range from approximately $30,000 to $60,000 per year, depending on the experience level and qualifications of the candidate. Resumes and letters of interest should be addressed to Commissioner Judy Williams in the Department of Human Resources on the second floor of Mount Vernon City Hall.
The position is provisional, and the dispatcher must pass a Civil Service exam when it is given in order to be considered on a permanent basis.
According to a job posting listed by Mayor Ernest Davis, “the work requires a high degree of accuracy and alertness in dispatching fire companies to scenes of fires, emergencies and complaints in accordance with a prescribed routine.”
As a fire dispatcher, the candidate will be working under stressful conditions and during emergency situations. The candidate will be expected to understand and follow complex orders from superiors.
Candidates must have a high school diploma, a minimum of one-year experience in computer and record keeping and a valid New York state driver’s license.
