MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - A prominent music producer that calls Mount Vernon home has joined the cacophony of voices urging Amazon to choose the city as the destination for its second headquarters.

Last month, Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas announced that the city had become the latest Westchester municipality to toss its hat into the ring for Amazon HQ2 as officials seek the ideal home for their new headquarters.

Thomas released a video on Wednesday of Tony Dofat, who was “one of two legendary figures responsible for the success of Bad Boy Records and putting hip-hop on the map,” the mayor said. Dofat has produced albums for artists that include the Notorious B.I.G, Mary J. Blige and Will Smith.

Citing the city’s proximity to Manhattan and recently implemented policies that “allow creative industries to flourish, and zoning rules that work at the speed of business,” officials have been pushing their case to house the new headquarters.

“We are an edge city that combines the excitement of urban life with the peace and serenity of the suburbs,” officials said a video announcing the bid. “With access to two New York City subway lines, two commuter trains, six major highways and six airports, we provide access to the Northeast corridor and every corner of the earth.”

“Like amazon.com, Mount Vernon embraces the 21st Century technologies that have potential to change commerce forever. We have implemented policies that will allow development and the capacity for millions of square feet of customizable professional office space, logistics and fulfillment space that would be a smart, fast-growth company’s dream.”

Mount Vernon’s bid comes on the heels of Westchester County making a run of its own at Amazon HQ2. New Rochelle officials have also submitted an individual bid of their own last month.

“The time has come for Mount Vernon to leapfrog the region and awaken as an economic, sports, entertainment and business capital of the Northeast corridor,” Thomas said. “Amazon, you have an opportunity to build on our city’s historic platform of innovation. We are more than ready to build the future with you here in Mount Vernon.”
