MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - The Mount Vernon Industrial Development Agency has inked a deal that will bring an Austrian-based multi-million dollar business to Mount Vernon.
On Thursday, Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas - who also serves as the chairman of the MVIDA - announced that they have approved an inducement resolution for MK Illumination USA, Inc. to purchase property and relocate their factory operations to Mount Vernon.
MK Illumination USA, an international company with holdings in North Carolina, has annual revenues exceeding $100 million, with operations in more than 120 countries, Thomas noted. They are reportedly in the process of purchasing American Christmas and its location at 30 Warren Place.
Thomas said that in return for the aid, MK Illumination has pledged to expand the operations of the existing business and hire additional full-time employees to manage company operations.
"The Mount Vernon Industrial Development Agency is delighted to welcome MK Illumination USA to our city’s vibrant industrial sector,” MVIDA Executive Director Sean McIntyre said in a statement. “Building on American Christmas, Inc.’s legacy of innovation and community partnership. MK Illumination is poised to assist the IDA in its quest to bolster our economy, create new jobs, and reinvest in our infrastructure.”
According to the MVIDA, MK Illumination is a designer of high-end illuminated displays and decorative scenes for municipalities, commercial establishments, and public spaces. The company partners with municipalities to develop festivals and holiday lighting experiences. MK Illumination’s light installation in Vienna’s shopping district is reportedly one of the largest in world and in contention for a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.
“We are pleased to welcome MK Illumination USA to Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon’s location is unmatched, we are only 20 minutes away from midtown Manhattan and 45 minutes from the Port of Newark and John F. Kennedy, Jr. Airport,” Thomas added. “It’s no surprise that an international company would scour the world and pick Mount Vernon. We are excited that MK Illumination will be continuing the American Christmas tradition of creating beautiful dream-like displays for all to enjoy.
“We are deeply encouraged by the vision of this company and its commitment to the people of Mount Vernon. American Christmas is a much-beloved corporate resident and MK Illumination’s pledge to expand their operations and hire more employees is great for the future economic success of Mount Vernon.”
