MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Kevince Pierre-Louis, executive chef of Wartburg’s Meadowview Assisted Living ,in Mount Vernon, recently won the Kraft Food Fight Eastern Region Championship.
Pierre-Louis was selected to represent the Viviano Region of Morrison Community Living in the Kraft Food Fight competition. Forty contestants vied for the top slot at this year’s event in Buffalo, N.Y.
Pierre-Louis defeated the fierce competition with his recipe for Cheesy Devilish Deviled eggs for the sought-after title of Eastern Region Champion. His win also landed him a spot to compete in the National Food Fight Competition in San Diego, California where he finished as a Top Five Compass Chef in the country.
Pierre-Louis hails from Haiti and joined Wartburg as a food and beverage associate in 2007. It was readily apparent he had the “chops” to be a top chef. He was encouraged to hone his culinary skills and enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. He continued to work his way through the ranks while enrolled in school; he graduated with high honors and became Executive Chef at Meadowview in 2015.
“While proper nutrition is important to keep the body strong and healthy, especially for older adults, it doesn’t mean our meal planning shouldn’t be creative and fun. I am a big fan of Kevince, and it doesn’t surprise me that his talents have been recognized nationally,” said David J. Gentner, Wartburg’s president and chief executive officer.
Charles Fox, Jr., Wartburg director of Dining Services said, “I am Kevince’s number-one fan and am so proud of all his accomplishments. He is not only one of our Wartburg success stories professionally, but he is one of those people in the world I hold up in very high regard personally. I congratulate him on his talent, skills and courage.”
